A planet killing device..

I figured there were lots of potential planet killing machines; plague makers, sunfuckers, simple thermonukes, but they dont really look like much, all you see is the effects....a plague machine could just look like a box, or a cloud... aside from giant robots the most spectacular has to be an assault from space, so this is my concept...

1997: a tiny spaceship, the size of a coke can, as black and cold as space arrives in the solar system at 2/5ths the speed of light. It swings around Jupiter and the Sun many times, slowing each time. Finally it slingshots out to arrive gently at an asteroid. It bores into the asteroid dirt and buries itself and begins to make things.

2012: an asteroid heads toward the earth. heroic space shuttle missions and a direct nuclear assault have failed to deflect the rock from its path. it will impact in 2 minutes.
Years earlier, giant sails made from asteroidal carbon and silicon grow out of the object's surface and catch the faint sunlight. Gradually, the gentle light pressure pushes the asteroid out of its stable orbit onto a new path, looping into the inner solar system. no one knows why this was done, or who did it. the artefacts on the asteroid havent responded in anyway excpet to repair themselves. first contact is hostile and otherwise silent.
1 minute to impact. in 18 months time the only life on earth will be living around deep ocean vents. its game over for humanity.

edit; the sails should be thousands of miles accross but the asteroid would look so tiny you couldnt see it

Private jet interiors for Jones&Bowen Luxury Design

Jones&Bowen are a specialist design agency located in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire that specialises in ultrahigh-end product design. For their very first comercial design, they were responsible for the design of the amazing $400,000 MDT Chapter One wristwatch, which you can see here:

Tambaba Country Club won Best International Development at the OPP International Property Show. In reality the judges statement says they were impressed with the fact that Tambaba was all well planned and legally reputible, but I still count it as a design win, he he.

"Rolls Royce" Black Ghost interior

My friend Jabran Syed is another recent graduate of Coventry car design and a ridiculously talented designer. He's also a really intelligent funny guy so I was excited to help him out with his conceptual Rolls Royce project, knocking up some interiors based on his ideas.

The idea might be that Copenhagen or another future climate treaty renders the use of private jets prohibitively expensive or illegal so music stars and politicians might use this vehicle as a cut price alternative which is still more glamourous than a coach, but less enviro-socially unacceptable than a jet, plus a lot cheaper to buy and maintain for the agents who would lease most of them.

I tried to mimic the deliberately blocky, hand-finished look of the current Phantom saloon and mix it with a possibly questional swanky-bar type trim colour. I really like the current Rolls'ss' but Im not sure they'd do something so wacky.

Dril's ship was a gold eagle 40 miles from wingtip to glittering wingtip.
The eagle’s city-sized gold eyes seemed to stare forever over its right shoulder, glaring at the disc of the galaxy laid out like a frozen, glowing hurricane beneath it.
The eagle was perching upright on a gigantic gold disc, wings spread. On its circular face it bore an immense raised swaztika that sparkled in the dusty dusky light of the blazing star clouds like the device on Gods coin.

While working for Joe at CGI I was fortunate to work with Jaguar on a range of accessories for their XF sport saloon. Not the most blood-pumping project perhaps but a great opportunity to work with some great people, and an interesting insight into one of my favourite car companies, and here are some sketches and a finished alias model from the project. You can actually buy this stuff in its production form from the Jaguar website.

Pretty generic residential tower, but with glass bottomed pools in the penthouses. I want to follow up with an image of the interior of one of the apartments, showing maybe a double height hall with the glass-floored pool beneath. And maybe a view form the street looking up.
Diving into one of those pools would be awesome!

I like the idea of entering the apartment through a corridor, (with doors off leading to guest suites etc) before the space opens out into the kitchen and pool are beyond. Upstairs the master suite is reached via a similar corridor. Probably coloured dark red! Freud would love that.

A reasonably reliable if thoroughly yawnsome way to make some cash seems to be architectural renderings. The resorts are not as I would design them usually, but it is interesting to learn how a building fits together from planning to construction.

William McDonough on Eco-Friendly Design

This is a very impressive and very interesting Stanford talk by William McDonough. He's an architect who is also in charge of an a $5bn investment fund focussing on new social technology as well as consulting to and lecturing and writing and campaigning. I wont say the talk is about Sustainable Design because it'll put you off with mental images of stupid bamboo televisions and boring problems with wind power.
Instead this guy examines the idea of planning to survive capitalism and its concurrent profit-driven climate and biological disasters, and how by being smart we can build a world of abundance, elegance and justice.
Its full of great thinking and is heartening in a world that seems to be ignoring the tsunami of problems our mismanagement of the biosphere has created that will overun us within decades. He's the sort of guy you want in charge basically.

From his bio: "Time magazine recognized him in 1999 as a 'Hero for the Planet', stating that "his utopianism is grounded in a unified philosophy that-in demonstrable and practical ways-is changing the design of the world."

Yale, Harvard, Stanford have put many of their undergrad courses for "curious newcomers to the field," on many subjects onto Youtube. Strongly recommended, theyre amazing. Physics with Leonard Susskind at Stanford is addictive.

My old boss at CGI Joe Molloy is a top guy and gave me a fantastic start virtually straight out of university. I once challenged him to a boxing match, suggesting I could knock him out. I couldnt. Great fun though.
